The idyllic image of a farm holds quite a bit of romance in our fast-paced world, but life on the farm was a lot of work. Our Farm Fun Pack includes some of the common farm animals: Rabbit, Dairy Cow, Horse, Pig, Hen, Bull, Sheep, and Rooster.
History: While some wild versions of some farm animals have been found in the North American fossil record, most were imported from other countries. Rabbits, of course, are native, but cows, horses, pigs, chicken, and sheep were all brought to North America from Europe, and many of those were first domesticated in Asia.
Characteristics: The Farm Fun Pack has all the sights of the farm without all the smells. It'd be perfect for a school project on farming or agriculture, an educational unit on farms and food, or a farm-themed wedding or party. These mini figures also make great Montessori toys for learning about animals and domestication.

History: Despite the occasional pest, much of the wildlife we see in and around gardens is beneficial. Ladybugs, for example, are voracious consumers of aphids, tiny bugs that chew on leaves. Butterflies are pollinators, helping plants set their flowers and fruit by transferring pollen as they feed. Frogs also do their share against pests, eating slugs and mosquitoes that can attack garden plants or make the gardener's life difficult. Bumblebees, of course, are the best-known pollinators, responsible for perhaps 70% of all pollination that occurs as they collect nectar and pollen from flowers.

Megatherium, the so-called 'giant sloth', was a massive ground-dwelling relative of modern sloths. This particular species, Megatherium americanum, was the largest of its kind. It browsed for plants in South America during the Pleistocene and became extinct just ten thousand years ago.
History: Megatherium americanum was first named scientifically in 1796 by the eminent French anatomist and 'father of palaeontology', Georges Cuvier. He recognized it was an extinct giant sloth, which was significant at the time because the concept of prehistory was only just being understood. He named it Megatherium, which means 'large beast'.
Scientific Name: Megatherium americanum
Characteristics: Megatherium americanum was a large plant-eating mammal with stubby legs and relatively long arms. It was covered with hair and had a blunt skull with strong grinding teeth, which can all be seen on our expertly sculpted Giant Sloth toy. It had a broad pelvis and a short tail, and could balance in a squat tripod pose. The large claws on its hands helped it to pull down branches to feed on leaves, and it may have also had a long tongue. It reached 20 feet long - the size of an elephant.

Giganotosaurus is the largest carnivorous dinosaur from South America. At an estimated 41 ft long, this massive dinosaur challenges even Tyrannosaurus rex for the title of largest theropod ever. Giganotosaurus occupied South America during the Late Cretaceous, 97 million years ago,
History: This predator is gigantic by name and gigantic by nature. It was first reported by Rodolfo A. Coria and Leonardo Salgado in 1995 as the largest predatory dinosaur of all time, a claim was based on a partial skeleton including bones from the skull, shoulder, hips, and legs, plus most of the spine. The remains were excavated from the R?o Limay Formation of Neuqu?n Province, Argentina, so while it is without a doubt the largest theropod dinosaur from South America, since no complete skeleton of Giganotosaurus is known, its exact length is an estimate.
Scientific Name: Giganotosaurus carolinii
Characteristics: Giganotosaurus was a strong carnivore with large jaws filled with blade-like teeth. It walked on two muscular legs with three-toed feet and sharp, curved claws. It used its long tail to counterbalance its heavy head.

Endemic to the tropical waters and coral reefs of the Florida Keys, Bahamas, Caribbean, and Brazil, the goliath grouper is massive saltwater fish. They can grow as large as 8 feet long and weigh over 800 pounds, although on average they weigh around 400 pounds.
History: Unfortunately, the Atlantic variant of the goliath grouper is classified as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Like many threatened marine species, they suffer from a loss and degradation of their natural habitat. They are also sometimes affected by commercial fishing, where they end up as bycatch. The good news is that goliath groupers were recently successfully bred in captivity, providing hope for their future.
Scientific Name: Epinephelus itajara
Characteristics: Painted by hand, this awesome aquatic figurine is a wonderful gift for an aspiring marine biologist! Despite their intimidating size, goliath groupers are quite gentle, and rarely pose a threat to humans.
Size: 5.75 inches long and 2.5 inches wide, this figurine is roughly the size of a soda can on its side.
